On August 16th 2008 Saturday, one of our Baro club greatest fan and member, Meron Alexander organized a barbecue and picnic for Senay Yilma who was injured on 2008 DC tournament.
I would like to thank and appreciate for her good gesture and kindness. I also would like to extend my gratitude for the Baro team members who worked with Meron. Even though I was not able to attend because of prior engagement, I heard it was a wonderful and fun evening. It is a great team spirit and this is what Baro is all about. Thank you again Meron!!!!

Baro defeats Flying Hellfish and
claims Championship Back to Back.
Team Baro came back from trailing to Flying Hellfish 2-1, scores 3 goals on the final 10 minutes and claims 2008 Summer GSSL 1st Division Championship. Alias made a hat trick to keep the game cliff hanging also exciting. Baro had so many opportunities to score many goals. But a win is a win. Good job everyone who played even Haji.
I would like to thank our goalie (Scott) for helping us out for the rest of the season.

Baro routs International Academy 6-2 and a win away from Championship
Baro managed to score 5 goals on the first half and made its opponent to forfeit the second half of the game. As usual Arbegnoch (over 35) helped to win the game. If Baro wins the third seeded Flying Fish it guarantees a back to back championship.
Highlight: Eshetu's wondeful cross from the left to Teshome(Morris) heading.

Team Somalia forfiets to Team Ethiopia/Baro.
Team Mexico soundly beats Team Fiji 9-2 and qualifies to play against Iran for the Championship. It was a great run for team Ethiopia/baro. We will prepare much better next year. The normal summer GSSL games will continue next week.

Masters Seattle International CUP 2008
Team Baro/Ethiopia over 35 age loses to Mexico 1-0 and beats Fiji 4-2 yesterday July 19 2008 at Starfire Stadium. Every-one played very good. I like to take my hat off for Asmamaw, Birhanu, Yohannes1, Yohannes2, Tesfaye, Eshetu, Teshome(Morris) and Biruk. At the same day, Mexico Somalia (11-0). Team Ethiopia has very slim chance to qualify for the second round if Fiji beats Mexico by wide margin and Team Ethiopia beats Somalia by wide margin. Over all it was very good result for Ethiopian Arbegnoch. I also like to thank Baro team members very their cheering and moral support.

Masters Seattle International CUP 2008
Team Baro/Ethiopia over 35 age will participate in Seattle International Cup 2008. The tournament will start this coming Saturday July 19, 2008. All players should report to Eshetu Manchelot before Thursday July 17, 2008. Also make sure you have the tournament ID before friday. The bigger they are the harder they fall
Team Baro/Ethiopia was totally trashed by Russian and Italian team yesterday January 12 2008 at Seattle International Cup 2008.
The team coach/player Biruk(Cantona), team Capitain Nati, Hailu and some starters were absent. But there should not be any excuse to lose 5-1 to Russia and 7-0 or 8-0 who is counting?? to Italy. The players might have fatigue syndrome from last week long gruel DC tournament. But I've never expected or thought of losing with these wide margins. I can only make one excuse that we did not have a decent goalie at both games. What happened with the defense, mid-fielder and the forwards? Can't we win a game without the coach/player Biruk being around? This is just my own personal question?
The most ironic thing that we lost so miserably, the players were in a jolly mood and having a good time. After all it is soccer. Soccer is fun that's why we laugh about it
Lesson Learned: No soccer tournament right after ESFNA trip.

Baro beats power house Maryland 5-4, settles for Bronze Medal
Baro beats Maryland 5-4 for a third place position on July 5th Saturday morning. It has been a remarkable accomplishment of Baro for the last 3 years contending for trophies and medals. We would like to thank all of our fans, sponsors all over around the world. Without your financial and moral support we would have not achieved these goals. We always say the best is yet to come.

Baro loses to DC Unity 2-1
Baro loses to DC Unity 2-1 and fails to qualify for final game. DC unity scores the first two goals in 20 minutes.
The defense was so loose to stop the fast and strong one man DC Unity forward. With a brilliant assist by John, Yosef scores a superb
goal before half time. Baro controls the game the entire second half but could not score a goal. It was heart-breaking though.
We always have next year.

Baro beats LA Dallol 3-1
Baro opens 25th anniversary ESFNA soccer tournament with a win over a formidable Team LA Dallol. Despite the ball possession
mid-field dominance by Dallol, Seattle Baro guarantees a must win game.
The other Seattle team lost to St Michael of Maryland allowing three goals at the last 5 minutes.
I'm hoping team Baro to play a better defense, mid-field with a faster pace for the next two games.
Our goalie Claudio was player of the day, saved 3 goals. Good job Claudio !!!

Another win for Baro before the ESFNA 25th anniversary tournament.
Team Baro dismantled team Fado 4-1. The team gets its groove back. Everyone played very well as expected. This win is a good moral boost for the games to come at Washington DC (ESFNA 25th)

Team Baro controlled the game and managed to score three goals against George Merchants on beautiful Sunday morning.
Teshome(Morris) was a superb golie, saved critical shots from relentless George Merchants attackers. Good job Roba !!!

Another One to the Dust
Baro lost the second game of the season to a strong and well prepared International Academy 4-3. I could say,
Baro lost its mojo to win a game. The golie was not present at the game.
Despite a great ball control, Baro could not come out a winner. I still hope to get some wins out of the next games.

Ato Belete Gebre passed away.
Ato Belete Gebre was one of the founder of Baro Sports Club. Ato Belete had been active in Ethiopian Community for
over two decades serving as Community president. He will be missed dearly. Out heart goes out to his family and friends. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Baro Opens Summer Season with a loss of 4-2 to Sporting FC
The first game of the season was too early for some Baro team members to show up by 9:30 AM.
The referee had very bad calls against Baro team. the frustration was so big and emotional, he had to kick our number fan Abebe (Doyo)
from the field and premise. Many open shots were wasted. We could have won the game easily.
Biruk Cantona and Kennedy are back to their conditions.
I am hoping we will play better for the next games to come.

Baro claims another trophy of 2008 Heinok Memorial Foundation Tournament.
The weather could not even be better on Sunday afternoon at Shoreline Stadium. A lots of Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopians were at the Stadium expecting to see the final game. After 10 minutes of the referee whistled to start the game Team Gambia managed to score 2 goals. But Baro players were poised, relaxed and confident to control the game. At the second half Biruk Cantona substituted for Miki(Asmat) changed the dynamics of the game. He managed to assist and score 2 of 4 goals. It was amazing group effort, great flow of the ball, full control of the middle-field led Baro to score 4 goals on fast energetic and strong Gambia Team in 45 minutes to claim the title. Bati had excellent games through out the tournament.
Finally Baro showed its talent to fellow Ethiopian fans and soccer lovers. We are very humbled and proud to participate on this noble cause.

Baro is back to the winning side beating number 3 seed 5-3 with outstanding performance. The referee was a liitle bit off making bad calls against Baro. The result would have been different. Baro faces first loss to the last seed 5-3
With the dismal play and out of discipline behaviours, Baro loses to PKS Polska. Team Coach/Player Cantona, Capitain- Nati, Hailu, Endale and the golie were absents. I expect more players to show up and perform better and have more discipline at the next games to come.

ESFNA 2008
The 25th anniversary of ESFNA will be held at Washington DC from June 29th till July 6th. All Baro Soccer players and new comers should report to the team capitain and coach very soon. The soccer training schedules are Tuesday, Thursday at 6:30 PM and Saturday at 2:00 PM by Ingraham High School.
Breaking News: Hussien (a.k.a Haji) endorses Barack Obama for 2008 democartic presedential candidate. According to insders , he will give press release this evening at Enat Restaurant by 10:00PM.
His previous predictions were right on the money.

Good deed has to be recognized.
A few weeks ago, I was at my monthly Ekub party at my friend's
house. While I was socializing, one of the title from front page of Seattle’s Child Oct 2007 issue caught my attention. The article "From Ethiopia to Edmunds" depicts a story of an Americal couple builds a family of 27 kids, majority of them from Ethiopia. I was very much touched and humbled about this family. I asked myself, how many of us (Ethiopians)open our homes for total strangers and care much. The couple, Julie and Rich Hehn are no Bill Gates or Sheik Alamoudi. But they
are middle-class family with moderate income, willing to share what they have with
these orphans. They also engage in sending books to Ethiopia, HIV awarness
program. They run small Italian restaurant Stella Mia by Kenmore on Bothell Way, North east of Seattle. Please let’s support this amazing family by
visiting their restaurant.

Another final game disapointment
Baro loses for first seed George Merchants 2-0, fails to collect a championship trophy.
This game should be a wake up call for Baro. The team needs more offensive minded players.
I could read the absence of Cantona from the game , the mid-field was a little bit loose.
Over all the game should have been better offensively and defensively. I would also like to mention some of our key players need to be in a better shape and healthier for the tournaments to come.
Anyway the better team won. Congratulation to undefeated George Merchants 2007 GSSL Division 2A champions.
I would like to thank Tajebe, Tamrat, Eshetu, Desta, Chuchu, Johnny, Data, Senay, Robel, Miki(Keyu), Michael(Asmat), Addisu, Nati, Belay, Cantona, Alias, Fasil,Robel Eshetu, Abel, Robel(little), Endale K, Lemma, Mulugeta, Sebsibe, Paulos, Louis and the goalie for the wonderful season.

Baro will open Fall play off game against number 2 seed VOLVO team Sweden this coming Saturday. On regular game schedule, Baro lost 2-0 to Volvo Team Sweden. Analysis
Over all it was a wonderful game. We could have scored more goals. The defense did a good job by denying the opponents a goal. Addisu (Zuber), Senay were great. I could say nothing but great to Nati, Data, Cantona and Mikiyas. They controlled the flow of the game. Every one on the field contributed to the win. I hope Chuchu, Hailu will join the squad for the play off games.

Baro beats PARS FC 1-0 and qualifies for the Playoff
Baro could not capitalize to score many goals from the opportunities created. Mid-fielders Cantona and Nati played well. Also the defense squad protected its turf and denied its opponent a single goal. Team PARS FC showed good game with very strong, younger and talented legs. Despite the difficulties created by the opponent team Baro came at the top with a single goal. Baro's next game's win and the loss of the 3rd seeded team PKS POLSKA will detemine the first playoff game. The top four seeded teams including Baro qualify for the playoff.
The first best three teams contributed for Baro's three lost games. I expect team Baro to step up and play stronger as a team to the coming playoff games. Go Baro !!

Last week's MVP Chuchu and the golie were missing in action. Baro misfired a lot of shots.
I hope the gang will shoot straight next time. The chance to stay on the playoff roster will be in jeopardy unless we win the next consecutive games.

Thursday Night Surprise
Defying the cold temperature, 22 players showed up for Thursday night training at Ingraham high school.
I could not believe my eyes seeing Kiros played such a magnificent game. The chest control, the killer pass, the fancy dreble and many goals scored against the two opponents team put him as Player of the Day. Fasil and Nati also had great games. Last night's dream team members: Kiros, Nati, Kalkidan, Robel(The Kid), Amha and others had many wins. We all had fun playing till 10:15PM.
Would Kiros keep it up? Let's wait and see!!

Another Great Performance of Team Baro over Biohazards 4-1
Have I spoken so soon or did my dream come true?
On my previous piece I wrote about Chuchu's absence at the game and on practice. He showed up yesterday, scored the first two goals and also he was a worst nightmare for the opponent's offense. We have not seen Chuchu playing on this caliber for a while. We say Welcome Back Chuhu !!. Over all the mid-field was very strong and co-ordinative. Nati, Data had excellent game. Keep up a good job.
Game Highlight: An explosive brilliant shoot by Tajebe from 30 yards,missed it by inch; Goalie's brilliant save of a penality kick.
Today's Goals are scored by Chuchu, Belay, Mikiyasi.

Where is Chuchu?
Once the darling of Baro, the most talented amateur player, I have even known has not been seen around soccer field for a while. He uses to come for practice and worked hard till recent weeks. Now he is an AWOL (Absent with out live). The coaching staff still believes in him to help the team to achieve the ultimate championship. What makes Chuchu to come to practice and be ready? This team is built by talents like Chuchu, Tekeste and others. I would like Chuchu to be part of the team at the next 25th ESFNA tournament. We have 8 more months for the next tournament and he can be in a good shape and ready to show his game.

Baro manages to squeeze River Plate 3-2
Team baro dominates the game by scoring the first 3 game goals. Being complacent is nothing new to Baro, allows 2 goals for the last minutes to finish the game 3-2. Over all it was a good game. A win is a win.
Today's Goals are scored by Belay, Alias and Nati. Good job guys !! If the team wins the rest of the games, still there is a chance to be on top.

The Makeup game was really a make up for the previous lost games
Team Baro played subperb game as a team and destroyed New Arsenal 4-0. Biruk (Cantona) is back to his condition as a play maker to lead the team to victory. My hat is off to the goal machine Belay who scored the first three goals. He had great runs, passes and finishes. It seems Baro got its groove back. Of course Haji also had a great game. Good luck for the next game.

Baro got the blue on the last, nasty day of September at Ingraham high school. It supposed to be a home game not at hostile territory. Team Baro failed to unite the soccer ball with the net and lost to the second ranking Geogetown Merchants 1-0. Unlike the other games, there were over five substitutes on the bench but not enough to win the game. Though it was much better game than the previous one. Hope the team will perform better and win the games to come.
